HER Story

I had been off Instagram for years. When I came back, every feed I scrolled was full of girls I'd coached — young women I knew, loved and had spent seasons with. Their highlights were everywhere. The buckets. The recruits. The rankings.

There was this player. Popular. Everywhere. And I realized I had no idea what she sounded like.

I know what that silence does to a girl. Research tells us girls stop raising their hands around age 8. They learn to take up less space. To stop advocating. Sport is supposed to be the antidote to that — but if we only celebrate the highlight and never make room for the voice, we're just creating a different stage for the same silence.

I also noticed: when I amplify a girl's voice, it helps me use my own. HER Story isn't just for the girls on screen. It's for every woman watching who forgot she had something to say.

So in 2024, I picked up a camera and started asking girls to talk. Not about stats. Not about rankings. About themselves. Their families. Their fears. Their futures. What they want the world to know — in their own words, at their own pace.

Eleven episodes later, HER Story found a larger stage. A partnership with Nike Girls EYBL brought the series to a national platfor. The episodes that live on the Nike Girls EYBL YouTube channel carry the same DNA as the originals.

The through line isn't a sport or a ranking or a program. The through line is HER. Any HER. A girl. An athlete. Two teammates. A whole team. A mom and her son. Whoever has a story that deserves to be heard.
